Workshop Summary: This workshop will help you develop or hone your nonfiction writing skills. We will delve into ways of integrating creative nonfiction writing techniques into fact-based prose in order to create dynamic and engaging narratives. Attendees will learn basic and more advanced creative nonfiction writing techniques that they can apply in pursuit of an academic career, working in Communication, Journalism, or Freelance Writing. Workshop Age Range/Target Audience: No pre-requisites; open to beginning and advanced writers, high school junior through retirees, who wish to add a level of interest to their non-fiction writing. Participants must be 18 years or older. Cost: $100
Effective Interviewing Techniques for Memorable Nonfiction Writing – Thurs., June 9, 2011 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 1004 Clemens Hall, UB North Campus. Workshop Summary: This will be a hands-on workshop where we will work on building a context in which interview questions have greater meaning and elicit the kind of responses needed for a richer project. Additionally, we will develop interview scenarios, apply techniques investigated in this session, conduct mock interviews, and give feedback. Workshop attendees will learn basic and more advanced interviewing techniques that they can apply in pursuit of a career in Communication, Journalism, or Oral History; put to use in conducting research and writing; or for personal satisfaction in preserving family history.
